You don't have to drive to the mountains to find a good walk around Augusta. The region has big-water views at Clarks Hill Lake, quiet pine forests across the river in Aiken, and plenty of trails to choose from. These are four places we'd start. Driving times vary by traffic and starting point; check your route before heading out.
01 / Lake shorelineBartram Trail
Appling, Georgia · 18.5-mile one-way trail; choose a shorter out-and-back
Follow wooded paths beside Clarks Hill Lake. The full trail is a commitment, but you can start at an access point such as West Dam or Lake Springs, walk as far as you like, then turn around. For water views without a major expedition, this is a strong first choice.
